He attended the University of the Philippines and the Jose Rizal College, worked as the chief mechanic of a bus company, fought in World War II, was appointed as the Military Governor of Zambales in 1945, elected to the House of Representatives in 1946, was appointed as Secretary of National Defense in 1950, and elected into the presidency in 1953.
