Suman Balintawak is one of the products that should not be missed at Naval Central Market in Biliran Province. Suman are rice cakes made with sticky rice. Naval’s suman isn’t the regular suman. Suman Balintawak has your choice of chocolate or mangoes cooked in the center of the sticky rice. No need to dip these in sugar! The suman runs out in the morning, though. If you want fresh suman to take home on the day of your flight, visit the market a day in advance and make a reservation. You can then pick up your suman on the following day, worry-free. The Biliran Mini Zoo is located in Caraycaray, Naval in Biliran Province. The Biliran Mini Zoo is a privately owned collection of animals open to the public and is free of charge. Among the mini-zoo’s residents: a juvenile lion, different kinds of birds, a 50-year-old snapping turtle, and a ‘liger,’ or the hybrid offspring of a male lion and a tigress. The Libtong Volcanic Crater is located in Naval in Biliran Province. There are numerous bubbling and steaming sulfuric hot springs and sulfuric deposits in the area. You can see steam rising from the ground. The central Biliran-Libtong Thermal Areas have 12 hot springs and one bubbling pool. There are 3 other thermal active areas: North Biliran-Panamao Thermal Area, Anas Thermal Area, South Biliran-Kalambis Thermal Area. To get to the Libtong Volcanic Creater requires a rough, bumpy ride and short downhill hike while inhaling the strong odor of sulfur.
