Waniban Island is located across barangay Tamisan in Mati, Davao Oriental, in Mindanao. Waniban is thirty minutes away from Pujada Island. A small island, Waniban it is only about four hectares. Unlike in the Pujada, there are humble huts where visitors can stay. Unfortunately, there are no foods for sale and it was good we brought our own. Indelible bought some fish from a fisherman who came to the island. Like those in Pujada, the beach has also white powdery sand. The seawater surrounding the island can be perfectly identified; it’s like strata of the different shades of blue which include aqua blue, blue green, and dark blue. The Panapog Festival is held the first week of August on Samal Island in Davao. This is a thanksgiving festival in honor of Magbabaya (Sama God), and for a bountiful harvest highlighting the culture of the Sama, the indigenous people of Samal, as shown in the indigenous sports, and other culture-based competitions. This festival features a parade, indak-indak sa dalan, cultural presentations, and much more.
