Batangas Province. Mount Maculot, also spelled Mount Macolod and Makulot), is one of the highest and most prominent mountains in the province. Standing at an elevation of 2,000 feet (600 meters), Mount Maculot is a favorite destination for mountain trekkers. It is said that the mountain was the last stronghold of the Japanese Imperial Army. Several tunnels built by the Japanese soldiers are present in the area. The name “Maculot” (meaning “kinky”) was derived from the curly-haired aborigines of the place.
